IMPORTANT NOTICE TO OUR CUSTOMERS

Due to an ongoing shortage of fresh cod and record-high market prices, we have decided to temporarily adjust our cod ordering schedule.

While frozen cod is significantly cheaper and would help reduce costs, we are committed to maintaining the quality standards our customers expect. For that reason, we have chosen NOT to switch to the year old frozen stock.

As a result, our premium fresh Scottish cod will only be available on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays until further notice. We will also be ordering smaller quantities, which means cod may sell out earlier in the day than usual.

If daily market prices become more stable, we will try to order a small quantity of fresh cod on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, where possible. However, this will depend entirely on market availability and pricing.

To help keep our menu affordable while continuing to offer the highest quality fish, we will be increasing the availability of several excellent alternatives. These include fresh Codling (a younger, smaller cod. Due to its naturally smaller size, codling produces thinner fillets), fresh Haddock, fresh Ling, and fresh Coley. Fresh Ling is a particularly good alternative to cod, with all cuts taken from the loin, making it thicker, meatier, and very similar to our popular regular premium cod portions.

We hope you will enjoy these alternatives just as much.

Unfortunately, if cod prices continue to rise, we may have to consider removing cod from our menu entirely.

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and greatly appreciate your understanding, support, and loyalty during this challenging period.

Thank you for your continued custom.

OUR FISH BITES

Our Fish Bites were previously known as Cod Bites and were made using cuts from our premium fresh cod. Unfortunately, due to the continued rise in the cost of fresh cod, we can no longer sustainably use it for this menu item while keeping prices affordable for our customers.

Over the past several months, we have tried several ways to continue offering our Cod Bites at the price our customers have come to expect. We first used only the belly and tail sections of our cod to reduce waste and make the most of every fish. We also reduced the size of the bites in an effort to absorb rising costs without increasing prices.

The reality is that the only way we could continue serving chunky cod bites at the previous price point would be to switch to frozen imported cod that may have been stored for many months to over a year. This is NOT something we are prepared to do. We have always believed in serving fresh fish and maintaining the quality standards that our customers expect from us.

As a result, our Cod Bites have now become Fish Bites. They will be prepared using fresh Ling Cod, along with other fresh fish from our daily supply when available. Ling Cod is an excellent alternative to our premium cod, with a mild flavour, firm texture, and great eating quality. Most importantly, it allows us to continue serving generous, chunky fish bites while staying true to our commitment to fresh fish. The portion size has now been adjusted from five pieces to four pieces per serving to help maintain the original size customers are used to, while maintaining value and managing these ongoing cost pressures.

We would like to apologise to any customers who have been disappointed by the changes to our Cod Bites. These are challenging times for many independent businesses, and we are doing our very best to balance quality, value, and sustainability while continuing to serve fresh fish every day from our trusted and reputable supplier.

We sincerely appreciate your understanding, your continued support, and your loyalty. With your support, we hope to navigate these difficult times while remaining committed to the fresh, high quality fish that has always been at the heart of what we do.

The First UK Potato Harvest of 2026 Has Arrived!

This week's chips are made with Accord potatoes, freshly harvested from Cambridgeshire as part of the first UK crop of 2026.

The UK potato harvest begins each year in summer, with the earliest new-season potatoes lifted from the south and east of England before the harvest gradually moves north through the summer and into autumn.

Once the final potatoes are lifted at the end of the harvest, they are carefully stored in temperature-controlled stores. These stored potatoes are then used throughout the year, keeping Britain's fish and chip shops supplied until the next season's first harvest arrives.

We're proud to be serving the very first British potatoes of the 2026 season. These freshly lifted Accord potatoes are known for their delicate flavour and make delicious, golden chips. Enjoy the fresh taste of the new harvest with your fish and chips!
